June 27, 2020 (Meeting Cancelled)
Time: 9:30 AM
Presenter: Paul Swarmer
Program: Photographing the Wildlife of Ohio
Paul will be presenting some of his best wildlife images, and will discuss how they were made, including how to deal with different light, subject orientation to its surroundings, and weather conditions. Pual will also discuss the camera and lenses he uses, and factors involved in choosing among the many digital photographic equipment options available today.
Biography: Paul Swarmer’s passion for nature and everything wild began about 6 years of age, When he first learned to climb over the back fence of my family’s property, much to his parent’s exasperation. His father was always a photographer, both professional and amateur. When Paul was still quite young, his father told him that he should be photographing the places, animals, plants, and other interesting things that I found on my “adventures”.
Paul’s father gave him one of his older cameras, a Pentax Spotmatic with 50mm and 200mm lenses, and four rolls of film. Paul’s love of photography and art began. With study, practice, Paul’s photographic imaging greatly improved. Convinced by many that my work was of a quality that I should exhibit and sell my photography at juried art shows. For several years, I exhibited at juried art shows with some success.
Over time, Paul realized that the commercial side of the art business had taken over his activities and he was more engaged in making and selling a product than making art. Because of these experiences, photography was no longer fun and for several years, he stepped away from photography, and just went about the joy and therapy the outdoors had always given me.
With research and advice from friends, Paul acquired a good digital camera with telephoto lens and learned how to use it. Following his retirement in 2000, he returned with renewed passion and enthusiasm to his first love, wildlife photography.

September 26, 2020 (Meeting Cancelled)
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Program: 2021 Nature Photo Club Calendar submissions and selection
In preparation of submitting images to be considered for our 2021 TWC NPC Calendar, the following guidelines must be followed.
Enter up to 4 photos in each category: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, or Cover.
All photos must be in a horizontal/Landscape format.
Reminder: the cover photo must be one taken at a Wilderness Center property.
These image files must be large enough to print an 8x10 or equivalent size photo and should be at least 240 dpi.
I would think the file size should be at least 2 or 3 megabytes (MB)
If you see the size of the file is measured as kilobytes (ex: 800 kbs), it is probably too small to print a quality calendar size photo.
All submissions must be sent to Bryan Leaman at [email protected] or add your photos to his Dropbox account via this link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/4WhBT6r9s1b3ng6iAQYv (the upload form will require your name & email address, so he will know who submitted each one). Feel free to upload full-size images; he will resize them for the selection process. NOTE: If you are sending your image files to Bryan by email, you will probably have to send maybe 3 at a time for them to be sent. I would suggest grouping and sending them by season. If you are using his dropbox, you should be able to submit them all together but it might take some time for them to upload depending on your internet speed.
Bryan will return an email to each person with a screenshot of image thumbnails to confirm that he has everything he should. If you do NOT receive a reply from Bryan within 3 days of your submission, please call him at 330-453-015
Important: Bryan would appreciate if the file names started with the season they are for: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, or Cover.
Dropbox will add the person’s name to the beginning and emailed photos will tell him who they're from, so the file names do not need the club member's name in them.
NOTE: Bryan would like all submissions by midnight, Wednesday, Sept. 23. Exceptions can be arranged by emailing or calling him (330-453-0150) or enlist the aid of another club member. If sending via computer is an issue for you, call and we can work something out.
Submissions will not be excepted on the day of the meeting! If you bring them in on the meeting day, you will be asked to submit them next year!
NOTE: Only members are eligible for submitting photos.
Shooting Topic: None due to the length of the meeting.
Refreshments: John Bauer and Nancy Saulnier

October 24, 2020 (Meeting Cancelled)

Business Meeting: Election of Officers
Program: Hocking Hills Photography
Presenter: Don Holycross
Native Ohioan. Grew up in Logan County (Bellefontaine area) in west central Ohio. Bachelor Degree from Muskingum College with major in political science. Master Degree from Ohio State University in Public Administration. Twenty-two years as a Village or Town Manager in Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina. Now retired from city management. Living in Logan (Hocking County) in southeastern Ohio.
Serious photography work began 10 years ago. I specialize in photographs of the Hocking Hills, as well as other landscape, nightscape (Milky Way and moon), sunset, waterfall and macro (flower) images.
Most of my landscape photographs are high dynamic range (HDR) using up to seven exposures. I do that primarily to extract and preserve details in the shadows as well as the highlights. The multiple exposures are blended in Aurora or Photomatix and I post process in Lightroom, Nik Color Efex Pro and Photoshop. The post-processing is primarily dehazing, tone curves, brightness, contrast, and sharpening. For my presentation, I will cover that process and show comparisons with single exposure images and images that are not post-processed. I will also cover specific techniques that I use for my waterfall, Milky Way, moon, sunset, fireworks and flower photography.
My photographs are viewable at HockingHillsPhotography.com or on Facebook @HockingHillsPhotography.

Jim Roetzel is a native of Summit County, Ohio and has always taken inspiration from the wonders that can be found in the Cuyahoga Valley. His images are widely publish including three books: Cuyahoga Valley, National Park; A Photographic Portrait, Birds of North America and Birds of New England.
Program: Critique of Members Photos
In this modern age the way most of us “exhibit” our images is via social media outlets, where people acknowledge our work with a keystroke. As rewarding as 100 “likes” may be, it does little to improve our skills. Jim will discuss criteria that make for good photographs, and critique members’ photos by commenting on both the strengths and weaknesses. The goal of this exercise is to help you create better images. Members are encouraged to submit up to three images.
