Paul Keske is an amateur photographer residing in Ashland, Ohio. Paul developed a serious interest in photography while in high school and has continued this journey through his entire adult life. Program: Camera Fundamentals: Part 1
Program Information:
Do you have a camera that just sits on the shelf because it’s “too complicated”? Or do you use your camera but you just aren’t able to capture the photos you’d like? Well then, grab your camera (and the manual) and join the TWC Nature Photo Club when it meets Saturday, January 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Ave SW, Wilmot, OH. Local photographer, Paul Keske, will be presenting the program “Camera Fundamentals, Part 1”. (Part 2 will be presented on February 23.) In this 2-part series, Paul will help you understand your camera’s exposure modes so that you can create the photos YOU want. You will learn the practical side of using Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and the Manual Mode and the why’s behind choosing one over another. Along the way we’ll explore both the technical and the artistic reasons to choose an exposure mode and how to control each of these. Paul has been a photographer most of his life. After decades of film photography he switched to digital in 2008. In addition to presenting programs on the basics of photography, Paul also teaches classes in post-processing using Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Lightroom. He is the current president of the Ashland Photography Club. This program is free and open to the public.

Program: Camera Fundamentals: Part 2
Program Information: Taking pictures today is easy, even with a sophisticated DSLR or Mirrorless camera. These camera’s all have full Auto modes that allow you to take good pictures without much thought. However, taking control of your camera to create the image that YOU want requires some knowledge and skill. Knowing which exposure mode to use and how to use it effectively is a big step in taking control of your camera and taking control of the images you produce. In this two-part series the camera’s exposure modes will be explored. You will learn the practical side of using Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and the Manual Mode and the why’s behind choosing one over another. Along the way we will explore both the technical and the artistic reasons to choose an exposure mode and how to control each of these.
Shooting Topic: Winter Birds

August 24, 2019
Time: 9:30 AM
Presenter: Dan Sved
About Dan Sved:
I received my first camera as a gift when I was seven years old and I started processing black and white images that same year. While majoring in biology in college, I was the photography editor and one of the staff photographers for the Penn Press. I then worked for a year shooting portraits for a regional studio before starting my own business as a photographer. In addition to portraits, I also found myself working for an interior designer and doing some architectural photography for advertising. During this period, I also unfortunately injured my right eye, which made focusing a camera impossible. I went back to school, earned a doctorate in marine science, and had a successful career in scientific research. Now, thanks to the advent of autofocus cameras, I have returned my attention to photography. My love of nature drives most of my work, but I try to incorporate a variety of genres and styles. I have won numerous awards for both color and black & white photography at local, state, and national levels, including several best‑of‑show awards. My portrait photography has been published internationally and my nature and landscape photography has been featured in exhibits at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge in West Virginia and the Ohio Bird Sanctuary. My latest work can be seen on my Facebook blog or my website, www.dansved.com.
My first photography business card had a picture of a brown bear taken at a zoo, so it was only fitting that I would eventually travel to Alaska to photograph bears in their natural habitat.
Program: My presentation for The Wilderness Center will feature photographs of brown bears that I took during recent adventures in one of America’s greatest wilderness locations, Katmai National Park, as well as a few other locations in the Last Frontier.
Shooting Topic: Summer Landscape from the last 30 days
Refreshments: Beth and Rich Patrick

September 28, 2019
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Program: 2020 Nature Photo Club Calendar submissions and selection
In preparation of submitting images to be considered for our 2020 TWC NPC Calendar, the following guidelines must be followed.
Enter up to 4 photos in each category: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, or Cover.
All photos must be in a horizontal/Landscape format.
Reminder: the cover photo must be one taken at a Wilderness Center property.
These image files must be large enough to print an 8x10 or equivalent size photo and should be at least 240 dpi.
I would think the file size should be at least 2 or 3 megabytes (MB)
If you see the size of the file is measured as kilobytes (ex: 800 kbs), it is probably too small to print a quality calendar size photo.
All submissions must be sent to Bryan Leaman at [email protected] or add your photos to his Dropbox account via this link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/4WhBT6r9s1b3ng6iAQYv (the upload form will require your name & email address, so he will know who submitted each one). Feel free to upload full-size images; he will resize them for the selection process. NOTE: If you are sending your image files to Bryan by email, you will probably have to send maybe 3 at a time for them to be sent. I would suggest grouping and sending them by season. If you are using his dropbox, you should be able to submit them all together but it might take some time for them to upload depending on your internet speed.
Bryan will return an email to each person with a screenshot of image thumbnails to confirm that he has everything he should. If you do NOT receive a reply from Bryan within 3 days of your submission, please call him at 330-453-015
Important: Bryan would appreciate if the file names started with the season they are for: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, or Cover.
Dropbox will add the person’s name to the beginning and emailed photos will tell him who they're from, so the file names do not need the club member's name in them.
NOTE: Bryan would like all submissions by midnight, Wednesday, Sept. 25. Exceptions can be arranged by emailing or calling him (330-453-0150) or enlist the aid of another club member. If sending via computer is an issue for you, call and we can work something out.
Submissions will not be excepted on the day of the meeting! If you bring them in on the meeting day, you will be asked to submit them next year!
NOTE: Only members are eligible for submitting photos.
Shooting Topic: None due to the length of the meeting.
Refreshments: Denise Bacher and Jean Nester
